Tough Challenges Await Super Eagles, Says Adepoju
Former Nigerian international, Mutiu Adepoju, warns that South Africa and Benin will pose significant challenges for the Super Eagles in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Nigeria will face South Africa on June 3rd, 2024, and Benin on June 10th, 2024.
In a recent Hot Sports interview, Adepoju expressed his concerns. He said, “Beating South Africa will not be easy. We defeated them in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semifinals. Our women’s team also beat them in the Olympic qualifiers.”
Furthermore, he compared the upcoming matches with South Africa to historical games against Cameroon and Ghana. “Playing South Africa is as tough as our past battles with Cameroon and Ghana,” he explained.

Additionally, he commented on Benin, “Benin is a significant challenge too. All teams are motivated to play against us.” He stressed the importance of support. “We need to break through their defenses. It’s crucial that coaches get full support and players feel the nation’s backing,” he stated.
As the Super Eagles prepare for these important matches, fan support and effective coaching strategies will be key. Together, they can help the team overcome these hurdles and aim for a spot in the World Cup.
