(Victoria, BC – August 13, 2024)
It was an absolutely sensational and record-setting 16 days for Team Canada at Paris 2024, as the athletes surpassed the country’s all-time record of 24 medals, bringing home an impressive total of 27. Additionally, Canadian athletes set a new standard for Gold medals, securing nine and breaking the previous record of seven for a non-boycotted games.
The 27 medals won by Team Canada’s placed them twelfth in the overall medal count in Paris and the 9 Golds was good for 11th overall. Of Canada’s 27 medals, nine (33%) were won by BC connected and CSI Pacific affiliated athletes, including 50% of Canada’s Gold and Silver medal totals.
BC connected athletes had an incredible run of achievements at Paris 2024. Some of these include:
- Nanaimo’s Ethan Katzberg & Richmond’s Camryn Rogers historic double Gold in Hammer Throw
- The Langford-based Rugby Sevens Women’s team’s Silver, a best ever result for a Canadian rugby team
- The Rowing Women’s Eights’ back-to-back podiums, securing a Silver of their own. The Rowers train on Quamichan Lake on Vancouver Island
- Vancouver’s Phil Wizard’s Gold medal in Men’s Breaking, the first in the history of the sport
- Jerome Blake & teammates’ electric Gold medal win in the Men’s 4x100m Relay
- The best ever result for a Canadian Beach Volleyball team when Melissa Humana-Paredes and her teammate Brandie Wilkerson won Silver
- Canadian Records in Pole Vault (Alysha Newman), 100m (Audrey Leduc), 800m (Marco Arop), and the Marathon Race Walk Mixed Relay (Evan Dunfee & Olivia Lundman)
- Personal Best results for athletes in Triathlon, Rowing, Hurdles, Pole Vault, and Sprinting
This string of achievements and many other performances show how BC connected athletes were locked in and ready to perform with the whole world watching and cheering.
