Last Saturday, the Stamford-born light middleweight faced Sebastian Fundora. The challenge for unified titles ended most disastrously. Finding Booker helpless against Fundora’s relentless onslaught, the referee finally intervened and stopped the PBC-Amazon Prime headliner in the fourth round.
After his second career loss, it’s difficult to predict how Chordale Booker’s career will unfold. As if dealing with the embarrassment of the loss and uncertain future weren’t enough. Booker now faces a backlash over an old tweet. In an interview with iFL TV, Booker gave unfiltered thoughts on Gervonta Davis‘s recent fight with Lamont Roach Jr. It follows a swipe he took when reports of the match first emerged. The way the Davis-Roach fight unfolded, with Davis taking the knee, referee Steve Willis not counting the knockdown, and lastly the majority draw decision, it became a major controversy. Perhaps for Booker, sharing his views proved a bit costly.

Instead of Gervonta Davis, the October 24 post from Chordale Booker featured a different face. He added, “This is going to be a good match!” So tagging the old tweet, a user attached the clip of the Fundora fight. It showed the last few seconds when, following Fundora’s blitzkrieg, the referee stepped in to rescue the hapless Booker. The user said, “Buma** fighter was online trolling instead of working on his craft and got stopped in under five rounds, goofy.”

Now it may have surprised a few. One of the protagonists of the March 1 fight at the Barclays Center, Lamont Roach Jr., joined the taunt. “Facts 
,” said the super featherweight champion, laughing out loud.
During the discussion with iFL TV, when asked for his views on the Davis-Roach fight and the controversy, Chordale Booker said, “I thought it was odd. I thought it was weird that, um, he was able to take a knee.” He acknowledged that Davis wasn’t visibly hurt. But he argued that his actions – taking a knee, turning away, and essentially pausing the fight – violated boxing rules.

Booker stopped short of saying Davis should have lost because of it. But he nevertheless implied that Davis bent or outright broke multiple rules, which otherwise should have warranted some kind of penalty.
For one, many fans would appreciate Lamont Roach Jr. Despite what happened, he stepped in to support an adversary who seemingly denied him a rightful victory. Nevertheless, it’s time to close the chapter on this issue once and for all. Reports suggest a tentative timeline for the Gervonta Davis-Lamont Roach rematch. From his end, Roach Jr. had already confirmed his agreement to the rematch clause. Now it’s over to Team Gervonta to attest and honor the obligation.
For Chordale Booker, this might serve as a lesson. Sometimes, both words and actions backfire, hurting the very person who sets them in motion.
