The Mavs’ season just went from bad to worse! Well, there has been massive unrest in Dallas ever since Nico Harrison decided to trade Luka Doncic at the deadline. The situation escalated when his replacement, Anthony Davis, suffered an unfortunate injury in his debut. Adding to the concerns, big man Daniel Gafford also got sidelined a game later. Turns out, Gafford’s injury is far serious that initially expected, leaving the Mavs at a major disadvantage for the second half of the season. As expected, the Dallas fanbase is not pleased one bit.
As per veteran insider Shams Charania, Gafford has been diagnosed with a Grade 3 right MCL sprain upon further assessment. As a result, he we remain out of action for at least six weeks. Well, he suffered the knee injury during Monday’s Kings clash and was forced to leave the game after logging in only ten minutes. Initial reports suggested that he would be reevaluated in two weeks. But Charania’s update has shattered all hopes for the young Center.
Of course, this is a massive blow to the team because Gafford has been a key part of their rotation, averaging 12.3 points and nearly seven rebounds. And his absence will leave a massive void. Moreover, the timing could not have been worse because the Mavs are already dealing with multiple sidelined bigs.

Obviously, the biggest name is Anthony Davis, who is expected to miss at least four weeks with a left adductor strain. Meanwhile, Dereck Lively II is still recovering from a right ankle stress fracture and will be reevaluated in late February. That means he is also out for a significant period. And there is no set return timeline for Dwight Powell as he continues to deal with a hip injury. This leaves the Mavs’ front court extremely shorthanded for a significant stretch following the All-Star Break.
Anthony Davis faces major accusations as Calls mount against Nico Harrison after Daniel Gafford update
Soon after the update on Gafford’s injury emerged, the Dallas fans deemed the Mavs an “absolutely cursed franchise.” Well, it sure looks like it as practically their entire front court is out due to injury. Some netizens are even blaming AD for it, “Anthony Davis started an injury plague over there.” As expected, fans are still enraged about Nico trading a superstar like Luka for Davis, who has a history of being injury prone. Apart from last year, The Brow never played more than 65 games during his Lakers tenure because of his health.
Unfortunately, he has started his Mavs tenure the same way.
