Deion Sanders’ Rocky Past With Giants Casts Shadow on Son Shedeur’s No. 1 Draft Pick Hopes

Now see, back in July, we had talked about a Mock Draft list by Pro Football Network where Shedeur Sanders was placed as the No.1 pick for the Giants. But the fans were not exactly happy. You can say that the Daniel Jones era for the Giants has been a hit or miss this year. The team is running on a 2-8 run and they need a fresh QB to pick up the mess. Enter Shedeur Sanders. Why is he the perfect option? This dude has shown nothing but improvement this year. Back in 2023, he was the most sacked QB with barely any good plays. This time around, with Pat Shumur’s guidance, Shedeur has switched up his entire playstyle. As James Fragoza points out, “Sanders is one of the best QB prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft.”

However, it does not look like sailing into the Giants will be that smooth for the QB. Back on X, Doug Rush points out that Deion Sanders didn’t really have a good past with the Giants. “The Giants wanted Deion to take a written test…. Deion tells the Giants that he’ll be long gone before they’re picking, so he didn’t have time for the test and them. To his own credit, Deion was right, as the Giants were picking 18th and he went 5th overall to the Falcons,” Rush pointed out. This does lead to some tension between Coach Prime and the $11 Billion NFL side. And we also know that if Deion doesn’t like the team, his son is being drafted to, then he won’t even let that draft happen in the first place.

However, here is the thing. Shedeur Sanders at the Giants makes some sense. Not only does he bring his skills, but he also brings the Sanders name into the NFL side. This automatically will boost the overall production for the Giants with ease. This is also an idea which Paul Finebaum had supported.

See, making someone like Finebaum take back his words and root for you in the NFL is a hard task, but Coach Prime did it. Back on ESPN, Finebaum agreed that he was wrong about Deion but he also brought out a solid point that a lot of people should think about. “He’s beaten the odds, you know, good time to get out,” Finebaum had noted while supporting a Coach Prime era at the Giants.

What all of this brings us is this; Shedeur and Deion could both shift to the Giants. See, Mike McCarthy has been a joke this year and the team in blue needs a new HC. While Shedeur fills up Jones’ shoes, Deion can do for McCarthy. BUT 2 other teams could have a better shot at grabbing Shedeur Sanders.

Shedeur Sanders to the Raiders or Cowboys?

While Rush did mention, “Giants near the top of the NFL Draft board again for the second straight year,” he also noted, “My personal guess for Shedeur halfway into the 2024 season; either the Raiders or Cowboys.” Compared to the Giants’ push, the Raiders or Cowboys pick is a much better option.

See, for the Raiders, Shedeur will be a solid pick because this guy needs a young HC who is versatile and understands the young mind. Antonio Pierce just fit the bull and even Deion Sanders had said long back that Shedeur would love to play for Pierce.

Now, coming to the Cowboys, we have covered before that Shedeur is pretty much a “top prospect” in the eyes of Jerry Jones.” Now, Jerry Jones is struggling with his dilemma. With Dak Prescotts’ season-ending injury and the massive hit the Cowboys are suffering after not bringing in Derrick Henry, they need a fresh start. Shedeur with the attention and the skill he brings, is the perfect option for the Cowboys who love the glam.
