Ex-White Sox All-Star Shares an Interesting Conversation With His Wife About Alex Bregman

Alex Bregman was looking for a long term deal. But did he get that? No. After a long offseason, the star third baseman finally agreed to a 3 year $120 million contract with the Red Sox. After spending nearly 10 years with the Houston Astros, Bregman finally has a new team. It’s not like the Astros did not try to keep him, but Bregman was looking for more years.

At the time, it seemed like a possibility but then the teams started to pivot to other options as they thought Bregman was expensive. The market started to look dry for the 30-year-old and ultimately, Bregman did not get what he wanted. His age was a big factor that teams were reluctant to offer the New Mexico native a long term deal. But looks like one Boston player saw it coming.

Garrett Crochet wished a player like Alex Bregman would join the team

Boston and Alex Bregman had been in the talks for quite a while, but it was not bearing fruit. While neither party was making any progress, recently acquired from the White Sox, Garrett Crochet had his hopes. According to Boston Sports Gordo, Crochet had a conversation with his wife where he said he hopes the Red Sox sign Bregman. “I told me wife, I was like ‘hopefully I get traded there, we sign a guy like Bregman…’”

Bregman will most likely play at second base and let Rafael Devers play on third. The 30-year-old had previously made it public that he would be open to shifting to second base if the right opportunity came. Looks like coming to the Red Sox is the right opportunity at the right time. Boston now has Alex Bregman, Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler. Bregman’s move to the Red Sox brings him back together with Alex Cora, the current Boston manager and former Astros bench coach.

What do the Astros think about losing their third baseman?

For the Houston Astros, Alex Bregman’s departure to the Boston Red Sox doesn’t feel like a complete surprise—it’s been a journey that fans and front-office alike have seen coming. Bregman, a key player in two World Series titles and a regular in the AL Championship Series, made an indelible mark on the franchise during his nine years in Houston.

“He had a hell of a run here with us,” Astros general manager Dana Brown shared, according to USA Today. Despite the emotional farewell, the Astros are quickly shifting gears. With the recent trade for Nolan Arenado and the acquisition of Isaac Paredes from the Cubs, the team is gearing up for the future.

Signing Christian Walker to a three-year, $60 million deal marks a solid move in reinforcing the roster, ensuring Houston’s competitive edge in the coming seasons.  The Astros are no strangers to adapting, and while Bregman’s departure stings, they’re already retooling to stay on top. They’ll undoubtedly miss Bregman’s defense and power, but the future is filled with fresh talent that’s ready to make its own impact.
