Fact Check: Abel Mendoza Addresses Abdullah Mason Boxing Fight Rumors

Bedford, Ohio’s Abdullah Mason is coming off a spectacular victory over Mike Ohan Jr. on 17th August at the Centre Videotron, Quebec City, Canada. And already, there are rumors about his potential next fight. Against who? Well, it’s none other than the knockout artist Able Mendoza of Fort Stockton, Texas. However, are these rumors true?

The rising star was all over the headlines when he stopped Ohan Jr. in the very second round of their eight-round skirmish. This has propelled the 20-year-old into crazy heights of popularity. Naturally, people want to know what his next steps are and who he may fight next. Mendoza, who was being touted as his next potential opponent, seems to have spilled the beans on the matter.

Abel Mendoza shares the final verdict on Abdullah Mason

You see, everything started when a boxing fan named Hassan took to X to speculate that Mason would headline his first main event in his hometown next year against Mendoza. He wrote, “Abdullah Mason[‘]s first Main Event in his hometown Cleveland Ohio in early 2025 is highly likely going to be undefeated KO artist Abel Mendoza‼

Hassan cited his source as another X account run by Matt, the CEO and host of Brunch Boxing. However, not long after, another boxing enthusiast named Danny, who regularly shares boxing updates, chimed in with a screenshot. It revealed a brief conversation between him and Mendoza, which would leave this case wide open.

Danny had directly asked Mendoza about the rumors of a fight with rising star Mason, saying, “This is fake news, huh?” Mendoza quickly replied, “Yeah lol.” It’s worth noting that after his recent victory over Ohan Jr., Mason mentioned that his next fight is scheduled for sometime in November.

In the same interview with Top Rank, Mason revealed that his November bout would be his last 8-round fight, as he plans to step up to a 10-round title fight next year in Cleveland, Ohio, where he currently resides. While there’s no definitive word on who Mason may end up fighting, a seasoned trainer from Massachusetts believes Mason is special.

Mark DeLuca feels Abdullah Mason is special

“That kid’s a special talent,” Mark DeLuca said of Abdullah Mason after Mason stopped his fighter, Mike Ohan Jr., in the second round last Saturday at the Centre Videotron in Quebec City. DeLuca, a seasoned trainer, recognized Mason’s potential from the start. “We haven’t seen him truly tested yet, but you can see that he can fight,” DeLuca added, acknowledging Mason’s fifth consecutive knockout.

Despite knowing the uphill battle Ohan faced, DeLuca remained focused on his fighter’s safety. “He got hit with two really sharp shots—a brutal uppercut and a straight left that put him down twice. But he didn’t take much damage; he left the ring with his health, which is important,” DeLuca noted. For DeLuca, Mason’s performance highlighted the harsh realities of boxing, where raw talent and power often dictate the outcome.

Alright, as exciting as a showdown between Abel Mendoza and Abdullah Mason might sound, it turns out that fight was never on the cards. However, who knows? These rumors may have given both fighters a lightbulb moment. Would you be down to watch such a fight?
