Just like the women’s 100m at the Olympics, the 200m event has some curses for American athletes. Except for Florence Griffith-Joyner and Gwen Torrence (in the 1988 and 1992 Olympics), the female athletes in Stars and Stripes have failed to capitalize on the victory in the event. Furthermore, after Allyson Felix in 2012, Team USA has taken 12 years to reclaim the throne. However, Gabby Thomas does not care about those statistics. After grabbing the women’s 200m Olympic title today, she shot arrows at her opponents. Naturally. Shericka Jackson made it into the discussion.
Today, the Jamaican arch-rival was not present at Stade de France to counter the 27-year-old. But the latter said that she wouldn’t have worried if the 200m world champion remained there. “To be honest, Shericka Jackson is an incredible competitor, but I’m not really afraid to race anybody,” she boasted at the post-race conversation today.
GABBY THOMAS. 200M OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST.
@itsgabbyt is of the easiest athletes to root for in the sport and finally got her Olympic gold medal.
Three years ago, she took bronze in Tokyo.
