Well, the Florida State Seminoles fans might be finding the answer to one question. When is their HC Mike Norvell’s seat going to be less hot? That seems to be light-years away. Right now, the HC is carrying the weight of the 2024 season. After all, there was a time when the Seminoles decided to get rid of him. Now that he has finally managed to secure his spot, Norvell now wants to show FSU that they have made the right decision.
As of now, the HC’s focus is on the recruiting race. But poor man! The Seminoles have fallen prey to in-state poaching attempts by none other than the Miami Hurricanes. Thanks to the Miami commit, quarterback Dereon Coleman who might have some luring plans. Maybe, Norvell’s rivals got triggered by the national analyst.
A thorn in Mike Norvell’s side in the recruitment race
Can the CFB fans really be blamed for bashing Norvell? After all, that man had set high standards for the program. Back in 2023, the Seminoles went on a 13-0 winning streak, bagging the ACC Championship. And look at them now. Norvell’s boys concluded the 2024 season with a 2-10 overall record. But atleast they are trying their best to get back on track. The Seminoles now have 23 total commitments and are the 18th-ranked class in the country, according to 247Sports. However, looks like someone is trying to rain on their parade. That’s none other than Coleman, the 4-star quarterback who committed to Mario Cristobal’s army back in July, last year.
On the On3 recruits podcast, the host and analyst Josh Newberg asked Coleman, “Anybody you know off the top of your head that you’re in contact with that you really want to make a Miami Hurricane?” To which the quarterback replied, “My teammate of course Larry Miles.” Miles carries with himself an impressive resume. He racked up 68 passes for 1,204 yards and 10 touchdowns. So, Coleman’s answer is enough for Norvell to go into panic mode as this means that his offer for Miles will keep hanging. Yes, the Seminoles were a little late. But apparently it turned out that Miles was interested in FSU, maybe because his teammate, three-star offensive tackle Xavier Payne has committed to FSU.
After receiving the offer, Miles tweeted, “Blessed to receive an offer from Florida state university.” In case, the 3-star WR decides to opt out, that is likely to be because of the Norvell factor. Do you remember how Josh Pate came up with an ultimatum for the Noles army?
Is 2025 season Mike Norvell’s last shot?
Now FSU better buckle up! Looks like the analyst have already lost faith in Norvell. “If 2025 is not drastically different for Florida State, I may be out,” Pate pointed out. But we must admit that the HC is trying his best to flip the script. After all, he had done some heavy lifting when it came to his coaching roster. Not just one, the Seminoles have hired six coaches to its staff. To name them, Norvell landed Gus Malzahn as the new OC.
And the list continues, offensive line coach Herb Hand, Tony White as DC, Evan Cooper in charge of the safeties, wide receivers coach Tim Harris Jr. and defensive line coach Terrance Knighton. Plus, we have already seen Norvell’s efforts to bolster his players’ roster. But he has got mountains to move before trust is restored. And hereby the bashing game continues.
For example, the Elite College Football page came up with a roast for Norvell that’ll sting where it hurts most. The IG post had a collage of a frozen Doak S. Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee and Mike Norvell. The caption read, “Florida State had more inches of snow than wins this season!” They tried to sprinkle some salt on FSU’s wounds. It read, “3 inches of snow in Tallahassee 2 wins during the 2024 season.” Fingers crossed that Norvell finds the ultimate game-changing charm to silence the skeptics.
