This season has been quite the opposite for the San Francisco 49ers compared to the last year. The number of tragedies this team has survived is astonishing and heartbreaking, but not as heartbreaking as the moments that Trent Williams and his wife, Sondra, have to endure right now. The Niners tackle recently lost his newborn son.
Sondra was grieving when she announced on Instagram that she gave birth to a stillborn boy, Trent O’Brien Williams Jr. on Nov. 24. To add more to their catastrophe, the couple had just lost a twin earlier due to Trisomy 13. That’s the “saddest goodbye” any parent could ever endure, not getting to know their newborn.
Understandably, Williams missed the game against the Bills because he was dealing with this harrowing loss and has also been dealing with an ankle injury. The 49ers’ locker room is suffering with many players facing personal dilemmas and season ending injuries among other things. Kyle Shanahan knows the importance of sticking together in these dark times.

The Niners head coach penned down an emotional message, empathizing with Trent Williams and his wife’s loss. “When you’ve got to deal with tragedies like this, it’s hard as a coach, it’s hard as a friend, it’s hard as a family member, it’s hard for everybody. But we spend a lot of time with each other and that’s what’s cool about a football team. Whatever you go through, the good or the bad, we go through it together,” Shanahan’s message on X read.
