Micah Parsons Throws Shade at Cowboys Teammate for Signing Bonus as Jerry Jones Receives $40M Update

Micah Parsons is all of us right now, with the tax season knocking on our doors. I mean, there’s not a single person in the world who would probably feel differently than Parsons about paying taxes. Like, waking up and seeing Uncle Sam waiting to take your hard-earned cash away is not a scene anyone likes to replay. So, here we are in another episode of Parsons expressing his true feelings about taxes—which doesn’t seem to leave anyone behind.

Parsons came across a post of his teammate Osa Odighizuwa on X that read, “When I was in high school, I used to think people were bad for not wanting to pay taxes. I guess I’m a bad person.” No lie detected. I mean, when we were children, we probably hated those who didn’t pay their taxes. But once adulthood kicked in and we started making money of our own. That sudden realization crossed our minds. Oh! Now I know why people hate paying taxes. Like nobody likes seeing a chunk of their cash disappear at the hands of the government.

Yeah, it’s the duty of a responsible citizen. But I guess Parsons doesn’t have any love for taxes. Re-tweeting that post, he wrote, “Lol I guess that signing bonus hit 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 them mfs said snatchies.” Parsons pointed out Osa’s $20M signing bonus in his $58M extension. So, considering that huge amount, Osa must have seen a lot of cash packed away by the federal government. Toodles!!!

As for Parsons, he is still playing on his $17M rookie contract signed in 2021. With $17M in guarantees, Parsons has also never shied away from expressing his distaste for paying taxes. You would have to go back to last year to learn about Parsons’ genuine emotions about taxes.

See, last year, on the eve of the Texas tax filing deadline, Micah tweeted, “Man I just did taxes!! Wow! Just re-evaluated my whole life!!” Judging by his rookie contract that earns him a base salary of $4.2M, Parsons could have owed roughly $494,406$ in just federal taxes. He could count himself a bit fortunate that Texas doesn’t have any state taxes. If it did, then Parsons could have found himself paying more than an average American earns in several years.

Actually, you know what? Parsons might have to pay more taxes than he is already paying once that contract extension is sorted. Right now, the expectation is that Parsons may soon wear the title of the highest-paid non-QB in the league.

Is Micah Parsons going to snatch Ja’Marr Chase’s crown?

As usual, the Cowboys may have shot themselves in the foot yet again with their contract negotiations approach. In an offseason where Maxx Crosby and Myles Garrett wore the highest-paid non-QB crown briefly. Parsons is expected to not just win that crown but also hold it for a long time. As per Saad Yousuf of The Athletic, Micah Parsons’ price has shot up by at least $5.25M after Ja’Marr Chase’s $161M extension. “The Cowboys are still waiting. What was $35M in December is now $40.25M. When Parsons said he didn’t need $40M per season in December translates in March to not needing $45M per season.”

You know Yousuf is not all wrong in his prediction. Judging by the recent reset of the edge rushers market, Parsons surely wouldn’t be satisfied with a contract that is less than $40M per season. And considering he is younger than both Crosby and Garrett, Parsons right now holds all the leverage in the negotiations. Coming off a 12-sack season in just 13 games, Parsons yet again proved how vital he is to the Cowboys’ defense.

So, even if they decide to break the bank for Parsons, it wouldn’t be a total surprise. Instead, it would be yet another slap in the face of Jerry Jones—who doesn’t seem to have a clue that leaving your star players’ contract hanging only ends in a one-way financial disaster.
