Consistently inconsistent would be the two words used to define the Cowboys this season. After winning two games on a bounce, the Cowboys Nation finally had smiles around their faces. But that happiness and renewed excitement surrounding their team didn’t last long. As the Bengals snapped their losing streak in Dallas while handing the Cowboys their eighth loss of the season.
And seeing them fail to live up to their expectations yet again this season has led their former receiver, Michael Irvin, to come up with a possible solution. Dropping down his thoughts on FS1’s Speak, Irvin first pointed out the Cowboys’ ‘lack of cooperation‘ with his script, “When I wanted them to win, they couldn’t. When I wanted them to lose, they didn’t. What’s going on here?” As for Irvin, he seems a bit disappointed with the way the Cowboys are approaching their games this season.
When there were shouts of tanking to get a higher pick next season. It seems the Cowboys are going somewhere else. But the legendary receiver has possibly figured out what they are trying to do, “I got this thing figured out. We are going to be picking somewhere between 10 and 20.” And Irvin is just about right. After 14 weeks of the NFL, the Cowboys are probably going to have the 12th pick in next year’s draft, as per official NFL standings.

So Irvin has a suggestion for them: He wants the Cowboys to draft another No.1 receiver, “Between 10 and 20, we can find that other No 1 receiver and Dallas will be back. That’s all we need is one more receiver.” Well, Irvin didn’t just suggest out of the blue. He went on to state the reason behind it by quoting the Vikings. “Now look at all those great teams. They got two great receivers one high-paid receiver and one guy they just drafted. And they doing good just like Jefferson and Addison. That’s what we need to get next year.”
Seeing Irvin put out the example of the Vikings, he is nowhere to be contradicted. Both Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison are having great seasons. Jefferson has already racked up more than 1000 receiving yards, while Addison already has 708 yards to his name. But it remains to be seen whether Jerry Jones will go ahead with this solution. As the Cowboys’ hopes to make the playoffs are all but over with a loss to the Bengals.
Jerry Jones’ team slip up in their charge to turn things around
Well, the Cowboys could have made it three wins on the bounce against Joe Burrow’s Bengals. If not for individual mistakes. With less than two minutes remaining on the clock, the game was anyone’s to grab. Then the Cowboys forced the Bengals to punt, and their LB Nick Vigil blocked that effort. So the Cowboys had the golden opportunity to recover the football and gain an edge with seconds remaining in Dallas. However, CB Amani Oruwariye, who was playing his fifth game of the season, messed it up.

He couldn’t recover the bouncing football that dropped in front of him. And that gave the Bengals an opening, which they heavily capitalised on. They didn’t just recover the football. The Bengals went to score the game’s winning TD seconds later. When Joe Burrow’s thunderous 40-yard pass found Ja’Marr Chase, the game was done and dusted. However, Jerry Jones still refused to criticise Oruwariye, who is still a kid, “What do you say to a kid like Amani Oruwariye? I don’t know if we say anything to him. We made the mistakes out there. That mistake we made at the end…it was very impactful, is all I can say.”
Well, if not for Oruwariye’s mistake, then Dallas would have probably recovered the football. And subsequent plays could have led to Brandon Aubrey getting into a field goal range. But none of those things happened, and now the Cowboys have drifted further from their chances of making the playoffs. However, the good news is that they could be well within the range of picking a young prospect next season. So it all comes down to Jerry Jones whether he goes with Irvin’s suggestion of a receiver. Or address other positions in the Cowboys roster and maybe pick a new guard after Zack Martin’s season-ending injury.
