Only Junelle Bromfield knows the tumultuous times she has been through over the past few years. She lost not one, but two of her family members in quick succession— her brother in 2019 and her mother in 2021. Naturally, she had to push through a dark phase mentally. And while recovering from these jolts was anything but easy, she had a special somebody in her corner, reminding her that this too shall pass. And that was none other than Noah Lyles.
On the Sim Soul Sessions podcast, Junelle revealed how she’d been Noah Lyles’ best friend since 2017, years before the two decided to get together. Thus, when Junelle Bromfield’s brother passed in 2019, she confessed he was her rock. “He was there checking on me when my brother died in 2019 when he just won his first title, like I don’t even remember if in that period of time I congratulated him but he was there to remind me that life gets better.”
Now this is what being there through someone’s ups and downs truly means. 2019 was an incredibly special year for Noah Lyles, who’d claimed his first world title at the IAAF World Championships in Doha. Just 22 at the time, it was his debut run and but enough for him to overshadow Andre de Grasse and Alex Quinonez. But even amidst his personal win, he did not forget to comfort Bromfield who was mourning the loss of a family member.
