Connor Stalions who is the person behind the scandal execution is set to release his part of the story on a Netflix documentary titled ‘Untold: Sign Stealer’ on Tuesday. Given the unrest that Michigan faced with the Notice of Allegations that they received just days before their season opener, would the Wolverines be in a more vulnerable state when they meet their rival Ohio State on November 30 in The Game? Still, the pressure on the Buckeyes is strong, especially for HC Ryan Day.
There have been reports about Ohio State planning to move on from Ryan Day if they lose another game to Michigan. The latest person to report it is former Buckeyes RB Beanie Wells, who said, “They’re going to give it their best shot, and I think they have to get it done, especially if Ryan Day still wants to be at Ohio State.” So, while the season is going to be a challenge for OSU in general, Day is going to feel the pressure all through the season.
In a new YouTube episode on The Number One College Football Show on August 27, RJ Young dropped his take on the expectations for Ryan Day at Ohio State. He said, “I’ve been of the opinion that Ryan Day has built this roster to win on November 30th and January 20th. I agree with Cardell when he says ‘I don’t think anything less than a national championship is going to save Ryan Day.’ I think that’s where we’re at right now. It’s not fair but that’s the job. That’s what it means to be the head coach at Ohio State.”
Five years ago, Ryan Day stepped in as Ohio State’s HC and boasted a record of 53-8. But he’s still yet to win a National Championship for the Buckeyes. To make things worse for him, Ohio State lost three straight games against Michigan under his leadership. So the pressure for Day is real because that deciding game on November 30 is going to make or break his coaching career at Ohio State. But looking on the bright side, Day has put together the best roster for the 2024 season.
Ohio State’s 2024 roster looks formidable
There is no reason to rejoice in someone else’s misfortune, but for Ohio State, especially Ryan Day, Michigan being under greater pressure with a new HC and the consequences of their dark past could be seen as a silver lining. Day’s own destiny is hanging by a thread and beating Michigan is going to save his reputation. But his job still depends on their national championship fate.
The good news for Ohio State is that they have the most talented roster for the 2024 season. They have secured elite talents like safety Caleb Downs, RB Quinshon Judkins, and WR Jeremiah Smith, among other existing talents like Emeka Egbuka. One NFL scout said of their roster, “Pound for pound, player for player, they have as many good players as any team that I can remember.” Former Ohio State HC Urban Meyer also chimed in by saying that the Buckeyes roster “might be the best roster in college football in the last decade, as far as NFL talent, as far as depth… they are loaded.” We can only wait and see if the roster hype and Michigan’s plight are going to turn Ohio State around this season.
