Nick Kyrgios Minces No Words as He Retaliates to Fan Criticism Over Disrespecting Wimbledon Culture

Following traditions has never been Nick Kyrgios‘s style. Whether it’s his unconventional playing techniques on the tennis courts or his bold fashion choices off of them, the Australian tennis star has a knack for stirring the pot. And his latest attire at Wimbledon? Well, it’s sparked yet another significant controversy, but this time, Nick Kyrgios isn’t keeping quiet.

Nick Kyrgios did not participate at the All-England Club as a player. Unfortunately, his wrist injury has forced him to remain away from his playing career for a long time now. However, the tennis star has returned to SW19 in a new role, as he was signed by BBC to be the commentator during the event. But despite his changed roles, one thing has remained certain and that is Kyrgios’ defiance of traditional norms.

The 29-year-old tennis star left the BBC viewers in splits after he donned an unconventional look, during the practice session of Novak Djokovic, ahead of his fourth-round clash against Holger Rune. Despite being the middle of summer in England, Kyrgios was seen wearing a massive Stone Island puffer jacket. He completed his look with a cap that had “Gifted” etched on it. He even wore a Boston Celtics hoody on the TV. However, this was not idolized by several fans.

One of the tennis fans questioned Kyrgios’ dressing style and accused him of violating the Wimbledon culture. “Kyrgios completely disrespecting the dress code – why’s he even on BBC, blokes an absolute bellend #Wimbledon.” Interestingly, Kyrgios decided to not remain silent over this and lashed out at the fan for his remarks. Responding to the allegations, the Australian wrote, “I’m sure your 100 followers are all informed 🫡.” But the fan ensured to end the conversation on a calm note as he further shared, “It’s more of a ranting blog to be honest mate.” Kyrgios, however, has his own reasons to go against the tradition.

Nick Kyrgios was outrightly questioned by his co-commentator Nick Kyrgios about his exceptional outfit who questioned him for not wearing the usual coat and tie. Responding to this, the Australian claimed it to be for the “younger fans.” “I don’t mind a bit of old school too but need to find that balance in this sport.” This, however, is not the first time when the 29-year-old has broken the Wimbledon tradition.

When Nick Kyrgios ignited a fashion debate at Wimbledon

Nick Kyrgios is not just known for his fierce attitude on the ground but also for the controversies that he has been a part of. His campaign at the 2022 Wimbledon witnessed similar controversies as the Australian star was criticized for the outfit that he chose to wear.

Throughout his three-hour match at the Wimbledon final, Kyrgios seemed to remain on his best behavior, especially with the dress code. However, when the time came for him to accept his runner-up trophy after he lost to Novak Djokovic, he totally defied Wimbledon’s all-white tradition. Kyrgios swapped out his white cap for a bright red Nike Jordan cap which angered many tennis fans.

The Australian recently opened about the same. “I got fined about $16,000 for wearing a red hat and then my red Jordans.” As the tournament draws to a close this year, it will be exciting to see if Kyrgios continues his defiance despite the backlashes or changes his style to woo the audience.
