
Nigerian Men’s 4x400m and Mixed Relay Teams Secure Spots for Paris 2024 Olympics
In a thrilling display of speed and teamwork, Nigeria’s Men’s 4x400m relay team clinched a spot in the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics. The team’s impressive performance at the World Athletics Relays in the Bahamas secured them second place in Heat 2 on Saturday. The dynamic lineup, featuring Samuel Ogazi, Ella Onojuwevwo, Chidi Okezie, and Esther Elo Joseph, crossed the finish line in 3:13.79, just behind the United States, which led with a time of 3:11.52.
In another exciting development, Nigeria’s mixed relay team also guaranteed their participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics. Competing in Heat 2, Chidi Okezie, Dubem Nwachukwu, Dubem Amene, and Sikiru Adeyemi put forth a commendable effort to finish second with a time of 3:01.70. Belgium took the lead in this race with a time of 3:00.09, while Jamaica followed closely with 3:02.46.

Unfortunately, the Nigerian women’s 4x100m relay team faced a tougher challenge. Justina Eyakpobeyan, Favour Ofili, Olayinka Olajide, and Tima Godbless finished third in Heat 1, missing out on an automatic qualification. However, they remain hopeful as they prepare for the repechage round, which offers another chance to qualify for the Olympics.
The men’s 4x100m team also experienced a setback, finishing fourth in Heat 2 with a time of 38.47s, behind France, Great Britain, and Trinidad & Tobago.
