Alabama Crimson Tide messed it up badly against Vanderbilt last week. Bama’s loss immediately raised doubts about Kalen DeBoer’s coaching style, leading to calls for the return of the former coach. Moreover, Vanderbilt had never won a game against AP-ranked top-5 opponents until last week, breaking a streak that dated back to 1936. What else can you expect?
Following the notion today, Bama’s insider Austin Randolph took to X to share his thoughts on teams’ weak performances and took a dig at Kalen DeBoer by asking for former head coach Nick Saban’s return, saying, “It’s not accepted, lol. Nobody is happy. You think they wanted to lose? It happened; the only thing you can do is move on and get better. Everyone wants to have Saban, yet he always says, Never waste a failure.” Well, nobody wants to lose to a team that they have defeated in 23 consecutive games, and most of them were under Nick Saban. Almost everyone in the CFB world wants Nick back in Alabama.

Even sports analyst Paul Finebaum expressed the same opinion on Alabama’s loss and compared Nick Saban’s coaching methods with Kalen DeBoer’s and said, “Nick Saban would have never lost a game like that.” That might be true to some extent, as Bama had six penalties for 57 yards, and the most shocking fact is that they failed to sack Vandy’s QB, Diego Pavia, even once. However, there were also moments when the team was intact.
The only good thing about Alabama’s game against Vanderbilt was its offense. Despite controlling the ball for only 18 minutes of the game, the team scored 35 points and had a 312-252-yard advantage on offense against Vandy’s defense. Let’s see what Kalen DeBoer has to say about teams’ embarrassing losses.
Kalen DeBoer’s words of action
Not a single CFB fan can let go of the fact that Vanderbilt won against the No. 1 ranked team. But this couldn’t shake Kalen DeBoer’s faith in his team. After the game, DeBoer motivated his team to look at the bigger picture, saying, “We have to move on. We’ve done that after yesterday, understanding where we got to get better. We know we’re a work in progress, not a finished product, by any means, and that showed up on Saturday.” Well, it was a bad day for the team. Alabama’s struggling defense was quite visible throughout the game. The team gave up 418 yards to Vanderbilt.
Even Alabama’s defensive coach, Kane Wommack, addressed the team’s weak defense after the game, saying, “I didn’t think we played the game the way it was supposed to be played from a defensive perspective.” Well, Vanderbilt not only affected their back-to-back winning status in the game but also overpowered Crimson Tide’s potential Heisman contender. Commodores star quarterback Diego Pavia completed 16 out of 20 passes, running for 252 yards with two touchdowns; he even added 56 rushing yards on 20 attempts against Bama. Compared to him, Jalen Milroe had 312 yards but only one touchdown. Alabama needs to step up its game and make a strong comeback after a disappointing performance, or else it will have a tough season ahead.
