“Rather Have the Future of Aspinall” – UFC Legend Gives Alex Pereira a Reality Check on Bold Claims Over Jon Jones Fight

Alex Pereira is never one to back down from a challenge. The reigning UFC light heavyweight champion has set his sights on one of the biggest names in MMA history—Jon Jones. Pereira, a former middleweight champion-turned-dominant force at 205 pounds, has made it clear that he’s willing to step up and fight the UFC heavyweight king. His striking prowess and fearless approach make him a nightmare for any opponent, but a showdown with Jones would be the ultimate test of his skills, according to a UFC legend.

Jon Jones successfully defended his heavyweight title for the first time in November, delivering a dominant performance against Stipe Miocic in the UFC 309 main event. Meanwhile, Alex Pereira last stepped into the Octagon at UFC 307 in August, where he showcased his trademark power by finishing Khalil Rountree in the fourth round. For a long time, Tom Aspinall has been waiting quietly in the ranks to get a with ‘Bones’. However, according to the Brazilian, he is a far bigger achievement for Jones rather than Aspinall.
Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen also brought up the topic during his show on YouTube and shared his opinion on the whole. He said, ” It’s a tough question but if Pereira’s only argument is that his accomplishments in his resume today are greater than the accomplishments and resume of Aspinall. That’s an interesting claim. That’s a very interesting claim. If you could be Pereira and whatever his future realistically looks like, or you could have a future of a young Tom Aspinall. I think that you would rather have the future of Aspinall. I think that but if you would agree to freeze the tape today it’s all over I think you’d want the accomplishments of Pereira.”
Alex Pereira is gearing up for a showdown with top-ranked light heavyweight contender Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313. However, it appears the Brazilian is already thinking ahead, with his sights set on an even bigger challenge—Jon Jones. In a conversation with renowned journalist Ariel Helwani, Pereira revealed his goal of fighting three times this year and acknowledged that a potential clash with Jones could be on the horizon but only on one condition.

Alex Pereira opens up about his condition for fighting Jon Jones

“I love the position I’m in right now. Fighting Pereira for the ‘BMF’ belt would be cool,”, said Jon Jones before his showdown with Stipe Miocic at UFC 309. While Jones has shown interest in a potential fight with the reigning light heavyweight champion, how does Alex Pereira feel about it? As it turns out, Pereira is more than willing to take on the heavyweight king. However, there’s an interesting twist to these discussions. According to Pereira, he is ready to take on anyone the UFC wants him to fight.

While speaking to Helwani he said,  “I’ll fight anybody at heavyweight. But I’m the champion, and Jon Jones is the champion. If Aspinall was the champion, I’d want to fight him”. During his chat with Joe Rogan, Alex Pereira shared that he naturally carries heavyweight size, usually walking around at 230 pounds. With that in mind, he expressed his eagerness to compete in the heavyweight division and test himself against the best. Pereira further added, “He can be a risk, and I can be a risk. If I am the champ, I want to fight the champ. So, let’s make the fight with Jones—that’s the fight I want for heavyweight.”
