“I think Deshaun gives us the best chance to win, continues to give us the best chance to win.” Cleveland Browns head coach, Kevin Stefanski, said this after sticking with their starter, Deshaun Watson in the upcoming games. However, with just 1 win in six matchups, many think he is done for the season. The Patriots’ former TE, Rob Gronkowski, is one of those many!
In a recent episode of Dudes On Dudes, Rob Gronkowski joined Julian Edelman on his show to talk about the Browns’ quarterback situation and Baker Mayfield, among multiple topics. During the discussion, Gronk emphasized, “They’re [Browns] cursed bro, they’re cursed, their quarterback situation is cursed. I would say the best quarterback they had was Joe Flo and then they let him go. He’s a backup now with the Colts.” In addition, the former tight end also mentioned that the Browns made a mistake by letting go of their former QB, Baker Mayfield.
Now, Mayfield is the present QB of Tampa Bay. Since he joined the Bucs, the quarterback has displayed some stellar performances. This is evident from the fact that he led his team to the playoffs in his first season with them. Now, with all these facts and statements, and even not taking the name of Deshaun Watson, Gronkowski likely tried to take a subtle jab at the Browns quarterback, by calling the team’s QB situation cursed.
Besides these, the Browns were also labeled as cursed because they failed to win a championship since 1964. As well as “a series of questionable coaching or quarterback decisions, disappointing losses and draft busts,” all add to the trouble for the team. With Watson now, the team is still finding ways to establish themselves in the league.
Nevertheless, Rob Gronkowski believes that Mayfield’s exit from the Browns was at least an excellent decision for the QB’s future.
Rob Gronkowski chose Baker Mayfield over Tom Brady?
“The building was a little bit different with Tom [Tom Brady] in there…..He had everybody dialed in, high-strung environment, so I think everybody was pretty stressed out…..They wanted me to come in, be myself, bring the joy back to football, for guys who weren’t having as much fun.” Baker Mayfield said this while explaining how the locker room of the Buccaneers wanted a quarterback who gels with them easily, without being stressed out. However, it didn’t sit well with Brady, as he mentioned, “stressful is not having Super Bowl rings.” Now whatever the playful banter is ongoing between the two, Brady’s friend Rob Gronkowski chose to take the side of Brady.

Although he didn’t take the side of what he said about Tom Brady, he took his side while explaining his actual personality–the personality of being humble, which was claimed by Mayfield himself. So, while explaining his point in the same episode, the Patriots‘ former TE highlighted, “What I really like about the dude is like he’s just a normal dude man. He just wants to have a good time. He actually signed a three-year, $100 million deal the morning of and then he came to the workout session that day and it was like nothing happened. It was just like he showed up. He didn’t have an ego, he didn’t have a big head or nothing he just showed up…..and that’s what I appreciate about him.”
Gronk continued to call him a “dog” and praised his “wonderful personality.” So, yes, whatever Mayfield said about himself in the past, everything is correct. However, him referring to the Tom Brady episode is a different matter for sure!
