Although Kyle Busch is one of the most polarizing figures in NASCAR, he has established himself among the greats of the sport. Rowdy has his run-ins with the fans, but that doesn’t mean no one appreciates him. This was evident in how stock car racing fans got involved in a bidding war to get hold of one of his race cars from 2008.
The car was sold for a mouth-watering amount, but going by the latest development, it seems like the race car didn’t exactly belong to Kyle Busch. Some fans took this to social media to uncover the truth behind the malpractice of the auction house to cash in extra dollars.
Is Dale Jarrett’s race car being sold in Kyle Busch’s name?
NASCAR race cars and teams often list out items or race cars on auction, providing fans a rare opportunity to own a piece of history. We saw this with Chase Elliott’s No. 9 car door panel being put out for auction after the 2021 win at COTA. It was win number 268, which tied them with Petty Enterprises. Not to forget the merchandise sale, which is also huge among the racing community.
So whenever an auction house lists items related to NASCAR, it’s bound to attract motorsports fans. And this is exactly what happened when Mecum Auctions managed to score $40,000 after selling a 2008 Toyota Camry. Which was labelled as Kyle Busch’s road course car. But going by the part-time NASCAR/ARCA crew member Colby Evans, this was Dale Jarrett’s race car branded as Rowdy’s ride.
“The problem is… That this isn’t a Kyle Busch car at all or a RC car or a Gibbs Chassis, it’s MWR-545 and it holds A lot of history as it was Dale Jarrett’s final Start car that ran in the 2008 All-Star race. The car even has Jarrett’s seat still in the car too. Blatant lies just to try and grab some extra $$$ out of it, the original owner would’ve been better off keeping it with the original DJ final ride livery.” Evans shared this on X.
The listing on the website didn’t mention the race event in which the No. 18 Toyota Camry raced. This was Rowdy’s first year with Joe Gibbs Racing, and he did score two road course wins at Sonoma Raceway and Watkins Glen. But as the fans pointed out, the seat and the chassis number didn’t match, and the car was Dale Jarrett’s ride from his last Cup start. Coincidentally, his last race was in 2008 at Bristol.
Saw this on Facebook and wanted to share, apparently Mecum Auto Auctions sold a “Kyle Busch Road Course Car” today for $40,000

There’s been no comment regarding the same either by JGR or Kyle Busch, so it is hard to say if this sale was legit or not. However, the fans on social media certainly had their say. On the flip side, NASCAR fans will have another opportunity to get their hands on engine parts, body panels, and more of Hendrick Motorsports race car. The mega auction will offer fans the chance to get hold of parts and pieces to complete or start their favorite NASCAR collection and project.
More gifts incoming for Hendrick Motorsports fans
IronHouse Auction will host a series of online auctions that will feature race car parts and equipment from NASCAR’s winningest team. The auction is set to begin in January 2025 and will continue until March. “This is a rare opportunity for the general public to acquire parts and pieces of the Hendrick Motorsports legacy that have never before been available for purchase.” Auction house owner Will Lilly said this through a press release.
The official website hasn’t listed out the parts and pieces just yet, but the visuals gave a fair idea of what fans can look forward to. Going by the description, the items will include Generation 6 race car parts (driver trains, suspension, safety body panels, and more). Whereas the engine parts will include crankshafts, camshafts, pistons, push rods, connecting rods, manifolds, and more.
So keep an eye out for updates on this auction. This could be a perfect opportunity for HMS fans to get their hands on memorabilia or even active parts of a race car.
