UFC Rumors: “He’s Been Scared… Pathetic Little B—”- Colby Covington Annihilates Dustin Poirier Before Retirement Fight

Remember when Colby Covington played so hard into his persona that he ended up angering pretty much everyone at American Top Team? Yeah, no prominent fighter from the Miami-based gym had good words to say about Covington. Among the most bitter of rivalries was Covington against Jorge Masvidal, and Dustin Poirier, who famously said that he’d fight ‘Chaos’ in the streets and not in the Octagon. And Covington also wasn’t one to back down, regularly issuing scathing remarks to the Louisiana native. So when the news of Poirier’s possible retirement reached ‘Chaos’, the former interim welterweight champion didn’t pull his punches.

In a recent YouTube Q&A session, ‘Chaos’ dissed ‘The Diamond’ for supposedly being scared of him. When the fighting community pushed him to talk about it, he said, “No word on the Dustin [Poirier] fight. He’s been scared of my shadow for years, ever since we trained together at that old gym. The guy just knows what I bring to the table. He knows he can’t beat me. He can’t even get a lucky punch on me.”

What moved the former interim welterweight champion to further diss the lightweight prospect, was Poirier’s aforementioned unwillingness to fight him. He went on to give the example of ‘Gamebred’ who he famously beat at UFC 272. “At least he tried,” argued Covington. However, Poirier going into retirement seems to have agitated Covington even more. He said, “Dustin doesn’t even want to try. He’s going to go into retirement knowing that I owned his soul and he didn’t defend his family’s honor and legacy. So, Dustin’s a little c—, he’s Louisiana swamp trash and he’s a pathetic little b—–.”

But that doesn’t mean that Dustin Poirier didn’t get support from his team. Johnny ‘Pressure’ Eblen took to the comments section of an Instagram post by MMA Fighting that highlighted Colby Covington’s words and wrote, “Legends only sorry kid.” But why did Poirier refuse to fight ‘Chaos’? Let’s find out!

Why Dustin Poirier doesn’t want to fight Colby Covington?

For the right price, Dustin Poirier will fight anyone in the Octagon. Not Covington, however, as he made it clear that beef is so personal, that he wouldn’t mind fighting ‘Chaos’ in the streets. Further, it’s a lot of work promoting a fight against Covington and making the walk to the Octagon. And what if he loses? The former interim welterweight champion wouldn’t let him hear the end of it.

Back in 2022, during the post-fight press conference at UFC 271, ‘The Diamond’ said, “I’ll never fight Colby in an Octagon where there’s finances on the line. If I fight Colby, we’re both going to jail. He’s not making money off my career and what I’ve done. You will never see me fight Colby Covington in the UFC.”

Safe to say that Poirier hasn’t forgiven Covington for the way he behaved at ATT and the scathing remarks that followed. Earlier in July 2024, ‘Chaos’ used his appearance on an episode of Submission Radio as a platform to reveal an interaction with ‘The Diamond’ at a steakhouse. Covington claimed that he bumped into Poirier at the steakhouse and glared him in the eye. But instead of getting agitated and being dramatic, Poirier decided to walk out of the restaurant. And now it looks like Covington is using that instance as his reasoning for why Poirier won’t fight him.
