Just when the Utah Jazz fans felt they had hope, it was ‘Ice Trae’ who dashed them down within seconds. Not giving the fans a moment to blink, as his buzzer-beater took the life out of the Delta Center. The hooping community went wild after the shot, and some memes on Jazz also went viral. Speaking about dunking on the Salt Lake City, how could Vernon Maxwell not take his opportunity? More on his beef with the franchise later. First, let’s look at his reaction.
“There is just something about # 11’s killin Utah….” The 2x NBA Champion added the tweet with a photo of himself and Trae Young. Both of them shooting against the Utah Jazz. The Rockets legend was during game two of the Western Conference Finals in 1994. Houston would come out on top with a 104-99 scoreline and won the series 4-1. But for the Hawks star, the situation was different, with just 3 seconds, the score was level at 121-121. What happened next was just mystical.
The Utah Jazz had battled from a 16-point deficit. With no timeouts for Atlanta, the crowd anticipated overtime. With just 1.6 seconds, Trae Young hit the game-winner beyond half-court. It was his 3rd game-winner in his career but the longest he has ever hit. As per basketball reference, it ranked as the 7th longest buzzer-beater in NBA history, coming from a distance of 49 feet. As mentioned earlier, it broke fans’ hearts, but Vernon Maxwell had the last laugh.

His beef with the Jazz fan base is for reasons beyond hooping. “The people out there, they abused me. Talk about my mama, my grandma, talk about the stillborn; they call me the N-word.” On the Rex Chapman Show, Vernon Maxwell clarified his intention of trolling the franchise. Recently in another tweet, he did the same.
Vernon Maxwell won’t stop his antagonizing ways
It’s not new for the former guard to take shots regularly at the Utah Jazz. Let’s take a look at his pinned tweet from 2017, to understand his trolling mindset. “I’d like 2 apologize to Jazz fans that were offended by my tweets. If I knew u guys had internet in Utah I would’ve never made those tweets.”
Just a few days ago, the 13-season veteran applied for the job with the team he dislikes the most. “Wish me luck!” The Houston Rockets legend added the caption to his tweet. In that post on X, Vernon Maxwell displayed a screenshot of him applying for the role of Public Address Announcer. He received a long message, “Thank you for your interest in the Public Address Announcer at Jazz Basketball Investors LLC…”
But let’s make it clear if he gets it, he would surely reject it but after making a couple of jokes. That’s why the Trae Young shot was the perfect getaway for him, to take another shot. Just like Ice Trae did from 49 feet.
