The 2023 Pan American Games gold medalist was born on October 28th, 1998 in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA. His parents John Nedoroscik and Cheryl Nedoroscik raised him to become a top gymnast. They are first-generation Americans, as his grandparents emigrated from Slovakia. Stephen Nedoroscik has two loving sisters, Samantha and Anastasia Nedoroscik, also, of Slovakian descent. Historically, Slovakians have fine athletes who graced the Olympics.
However, he represents the USA after missing out on the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Getting in love with the sport at a young age, he educated himself at the Worcester Technical High School in Worcester, Massachusetts. After graduating in 2016, Stephen Nedoroscik attended Pennsylvania State University and attained a degree in Electrical Engineering, graduating in 2020. He is certainly a man of many talents, we must say!
Growing up, he attained the moniker “Spider Monkey” because his parents knew by four in 2003 that he was destined for gymnastics after creeping up walls. “On the first day there, I climbed a rope all the way to the top,” stated Nedoroscik, after his parents took him to a gym according to NBC. The sensational gymnast won multiple medals during his high school days. Later, he represented Penn State Nittany Lions of Pennsylvania University at the NCAA Championships.
Significantly, he won 2 gold in 2017 and 2018 and a silver in 2019. No doubt people notice him automatically, landing him a spot to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. Yet, when Simone Biles withdrew from the Tokyo Olympics events, Nedoroscik, too, crumbled under pressure, failing to make the team. He framed, “I messed up. I felt the pressure and kind of crumbled under it. So not hearing my name wasn’t a surprise, but it was still heartbreaking.”
Therefore, the gymnast now receives an option to redeem himself. His outstanding abilities on the Pommel Horse have earned him admiration, positioning him as the frontrunner for the gold medal. After successfully making the team, Stephen Nedoroscik mentioned, “I don’t think anyone in the world can say they’d expect themselves to become an Olympian. It was the dream to be here and I’m just more than honored to be on this squad.”
