The braggart fame of former UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington is well known in the world of contact sports. But it seems that Covington wants to take another step in his career, and that could be to get into wrestling and be able to compete in WWE. This seems to be his wish, and it could be fulfilled soon, as he revealed his future plans with the Triple H-led promotion once he is done with the UFC.
On his YouTube channel, ‘Chaos’ had a Q&A session where he answered all the questions that his fans had for him. One that truly caught his and everyone’s attention was his intention to go to the Stamford-based wrestling promotion. After all, he had time and again shown his interest in joining the WWE someday. Answering the question, he revealed the timeline for his new venture into the world of professional wrestling.
Colby Covington said that before he gets into the WWE, he would love to be a part of their performance center and learn the art of professional wrestling. Once he is done with that, fans will get to see him under the leadership of Triple H. ‘Chaos’ said, “I would say probably like two years. I wanna start really working on my in-ring wrestling and, you know, my crowd-pleasing ability in the next year or two. And maybe I will go up to Orlando and go to the WWE training center, but I wanna really start perfecting my craft in the WWE in the wrestling moves and hope that I can make a transition in the next year or two.”

It is worth noting that even before his fight against Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title at UFC event 245, Colby Covington told Ariel Helwani that if the UFC does not pay him the amount that he deserves, he would be going to the Stamford-based promotion. However, as we all know, that did not come true. It is worth noting that he would not be the first fighter to make the step from MMA to WWE. Many, such as Ronda Rousey and Caín Velásquez, retired from mixed martial arts to switch to wrestling. However, it seems like fans are not in support of Covington joining the list.
Fans mock Colby Covington for professional wrestling dreams
As soon as ‘Chaos’ revealed his plans of moving to the WWE, many fans of the sport were quick to let him know that they did not wish to see him as a part of their beloved professional wrestling scene. After all, the WWE has already suffered major blows from the legal cases surrounding former CEO Vince McMahon, so having another controversial star is definitely not what they seek. Taking to the comments, the fans were quick to tell Colby Covington that he should drop his plans, as they will never accept him. They wrote, “WWE fans don’t want him,” “As a simultaneous pro wrestling fan. Please don’t; I just could not take him seriously,” and “We good, Brodie; stay away.”
Despite having almost everything against him (a fighter about to turn 37 in a division full of young prospects), Colby Covington clings to the idea of one day becoming UFC champion. Covington suffered a tough TKO (medical stoppage) loss, the second of his career, when he fell to Joaquin Buckley in the main event of UFC Tampa. 1–3 in his last four fights, ‘Chaos’ used the example of Daniel Cormier a few days ago as a fighter who became champion at an advanced age.
But now, he has revealed his plan to move to the WWE. As a result, fans now believe that Colby Covington has finally given up the dream of becoming a UFC champion, and that is why he plans to leave the Dana White-led promotion. With him being a big name in the world of MMA, chances are that the WWE might give him a championship belt, something that he desires to seek. Mocking his future plans, the fans wrote, “Only way he going to win a belt ,” “Might actually win something over there,” “Finally a title for him,” and “Chasing gold in other sport now
.”
However, very few were of the opinion that Covington could make a move to the promotion. After all, he has been one of the biggest heels in the UFC due to his brash attitude and mic skills, so having him in the WWE can be a great recipe for creating a heel who will be hated by all. Who knows, maybe we will find a new Rowdy Piper? Sharing their thoughts, the fans shared, “This would be dope,” “He would do great,” and “WWE actually suits Colby.” But what do you think? Should Colby Covington make the move? Let us know in the comments.
